Wolfenstein originally came out in 1992. It was created by Id Software. It told the tale of Agent B.J. Blazkowicz and you played him as he over threw the Nazis and blew up everything (and everyone) in his path. The game was immensely popular and its commonly recognised as the first ever FPS or first-person shooter. It had stunning graphics for its time.
Recently, I had the chance to play the remake of the old classic Wolfenstein. It was released by Id Software 21/08/2009. I was initially hesitant to play this game because remakes of old classics tend not to do them justice. By the time I made my first gory head-shot, all of my fears were gone. The game was excellent. The controls were extremely smooth, even when I tried it on the PC. The weapons management system and inventory were great, as were the controls and key assignments (I played both the PS3 and Pc versions,
The graphics were also very good. The frame rates were consistently high and the objects were smooth. I found almost no lag at all. I am a big fame of single player games and plots. In this category, Wolfenstein did rather well. The story wasn't very deep and the main objectives were mostly kill/blow up everything in your path the I still found the story very gripping due to the excellently voiced and animated characters.
The gun play was fantastic, as were the powers. Every time you started to get tired of the weapons, the game give you a new weapon for your ever expanding arsenal or you were awarded a new power. The constant new enemy types and boss battles also made things stay fresh, new, and exciting.
Wolfenstein is a great game all around. I only had one regret: I wish I was around when the original came out so I could experience it in its full glory.
