Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade

The expansion to the very successful RTS Dawn of War is apparently coming in late 2006, so let’s explore what’s in store.

Firstly there will be two new races in the offing; the Tau and Necrons.

The Tau represents what is perhaps the only positivist, dynamic and energetic race in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The Tau seek to subsume all races under their empire which expounds the Greater Good as its prime philosophy. The Tau embody this philosophy in their warfare where their superior technology allows them to stay out of harms way, inflict critical damage and to maneuver to their advantage. The Tau soldiers are equipped with a variety of battle suits, some mechlike in nature, and all possess a wide array of lethal weaponry. Alongside the Tau fight their Kroot allies, the Kroot provide the close combat muscle to the Tau firepower and together make an excellent team.

In a direct contrast it may seem to the Tau are the Necrons. The Necrons are the remnants of one of the most ancient races in Warhammer 40,000. The Necrontyr gave up their flesh and blood bodies to aid their masters, the C’Tan, in an epic struggle for dominance of the galaxy with the mysterious Old Ones. After this epic struggle the Necrons and their masters went into stasis in their cold tombs waiting to come into contact with more sentient life. Utterly fearless and implacable the Necrons wield deadly medium ranged weaponry that strips the very matter from their targets.

Ok so along with new multiplayer maps (an easy and valid assumption to make) what else is in store?

- Brand new Single Player Campaign experience: Playable by all seven races.
- Non-linear game-play: conquer an entire planet in the way you choose.
- Watch a unique, non-linear story unfold from your race's perspective.
- Customize and manage a persistent army as you sweep across the planet. (very cool, hopefully just like a real game of 40k)
- Customize the appearance and abilities of your commander unit as he grows in power and influence. (again, just like in a real game, one of the most rewarding things is having an interesting and unique commander to lead your troops into combat)
- Discover the dark secrets of a planet shrouded in mystery.

I look forward to see what they turn out since they have done very good work in the past. For more info, go to the official site.
