Put simply, Killzone 2 is a must play first-person shooter on the Playstation 3.

With a face-meltingly intense single player campaign and a robust multiplayer mode, developer Guerilla Games has finally delivered Sony an answer to Microsoft's Halo.

The sublime graphics in Killzone 2 will make you proud to own a Playstation 3

The Killzone universe is an awe-inspiring, post-apocalyptic world dripping with death and bleakness - put don't worry, you'll love every moment.

The sublime graphics will make you proud to own a PS3.

The game is set on the planet Helghan, a wretched environment where every grime-encrusted building is crawling with giant, slimy bugs.

Your enemy is the Helghast, a gas-mask wearing aggressor who will stop at nothing to repel the human invasion.

The human soldiers are equipped with the finest weaponry ever assembled for an FPS. The lighting effects during weapon reloads is something you'lll enjoy time and time again.

Moving around takes time to get used to. Compared with games like Resistance 2 and Call of Duty, your character feels heavy and cumbersome to begin with, but as you play on, you'll realise the movement is far more realistic.

The single player mission will keep you thoroughly entertained, and you'll regularly find your jaw agape in amazement at the quality of the visuals, sounds and gameplay.

It's not just about killing the Helghast either. Killzone 2 throws up a number of challenges, including blowing up a train - which is particularly fun.

When you're done playing single player, log on to the multiplayer servers and start fragging opponents from all over the world.

You can choose from all-human opponents, or if you still learning the ropes, jump into a game populated with a few AI bots.

The multiplayer maps I've seen look incredibly impressive.

Killzone 2 is not perfect. The game does suffer from a serious frame rate issue when first loading a new environment.

And aiming at enemies from a distance gets frustrating without a sniper rifle.

But these problems are overshadowed by an otherwise perfect game - this is a definite must-own title.
