The Elder Scrolls III: Oblivion has been out for a number of months now and in that time several new plugins have been released for the game. These plugins add many new features to the game, several of which are tailored to a specific class of character. Many of these plugins are a worthwhile addition to your adventuring, especially if you have found yourself running out of things to do or if you want to play the game through in a different way. They do however come at a price, which is questionable considering all the Morrowind plugins were released for free. So, let’s take a look at what is on offer.
Horse Armour pack:
This was the first patch to be released and all it really added was some nice armour to your horse. This has limited usefulness, especially if your speed and athletics scores let you run faster than a horse, but can be good if you find your horse getting attacked a lot or if you just want some stylish new armour.
Orrery:
This plugin gives you access to the Imperial Orrery and quests related to its reconstruction. Once reconstructed, you will be able to use the Orrery to bestow certain characteristic increases on your character.
Wizard’s Tower:
Obviously a good one for magi, wizards and necromancers this plugin adds a large tower for your magically oriented character to inhabit, perched high in the Jeral Mountains. The tower comes with all the accoutrements that a mage requires: herb gardens, magical servants, enchanting and alchemical stations and teleports to each mages guild.
The Thieves Den:
Like the Wizard’s Tower, the Thieves Den plugin provides a home for your thief, assassin or rogue. The site of this home is on a pirate ship, The Red Sabre, in Dunbarrow Cove. Just as with the Tower, the Thieves Den is fully upgradeable and provides you with various supplies for shifty characters.
Mehrune’s Razor:
This plugin adds a vast new dungeon to explore, the lost Ayleid City of Varsa Baalim. Within this city lies the powerful artifact, Mehrune’s Razor, and a horde of other magic items and books along with many enemies to defeat.
The Vile Lair:
As with the other two character/class specific homes the Vile Lair plugin adds yet another, this time for your evilly inclined characters. The lair serves as a refuge from do-gooders and also provides all the supplies one could need and, for vampires, a place to feed or to cleanse oneself of the disease.
Spell Tomes:
The Spell Tomes plugin adds a large number of spells books to dungeons and random drop instances. These tomes allow you to instantly learn the spells within which is an easy way to acquire certain spells without the training fee, included amongst these books are a few extremely powerful new spells like Pride of Hirstaang which summons a bear and places fortify strength and resist frost effects on you for the duration of the spell.
