Microsoft asks retailers to stop Kinect pre-orders due to over-demand?

As insider sources would have it, Microsoft has sent out emails to local retailers requesting for them to pull out Kinect pre-orders. An odd request, to be sure, but could this be an indication of just how much demand there is for Microsoft's motion technology?

Lazy Gamer reports that they received an email "from one of the largest local retailers" which basically informs of how Microsoft has told them to stop accepting Kinect pre-orders. So said the email:

"Just to let you know. Our supplier has now asked us to remove the Kinect from pre-order, since Microsoft informed them there is a world wide product constraint and they don't know who will get stock."

Hmm..interesting turn of events indeed. If Sony was able to move a million Moves in a month in NA, could Microsoft do it in less than that time? That's the number to beat, but from the looks of it, maybe they can. We'll see.
