This September another harvest moon title will hit the shelves, and this time it’s for the DS. As a new edition to the series, Harvest Moon DS will utilize all the input devices of the platform to create a more interactive experience.
For those of you who are not familiar with the Harvest Moon series, the game usually puts you in the role of a young boy (or sometimes a girl) who has just inherited an old farm from an elderly relative. The goal of the game is to successfully run this farm by making a profit and revitalizing and enlarging it. Often this culminates in an inspection by your father after several years at the farm. This is by no means the only thing to do, during the course of the game you will be able to: explore the nearby village and forest; woo and marry a girl from the village; interact with local sprites and spirits, these often garner upgraded farming implements of various types. Your main source of income is from the farm and this come in two forms; agricultural cultivation and the rearing of livestock.
The new Harvest Moon will make heavy use of the touch screen from doing things like patting your animals – which will help you to produce better eggs or milk – to selecting objects in your backpack which is handy since you won’t need to bring up an inventory screen. There will be a vast array of characters to interact with from the villagers to the more supernatural inhabitants of the surrounding area. Your main aim in the game besides fixing up the farm and turning a profit is to free the Harvest Goddess from her stone prison and to do this you will need to collect all 60 harvest sprites. A final new addition is the inclusion of many more materials that you can construct your buildings out of which you will need to collect from around town, your farm or the forest and then store at your farm.
Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of Harvest Moon is the quaint, old style Japanese village atmosphere where colorful festivals are held all year round.
Here is a link to the official site. (which actually isn't very informative.)
Alskreek, out.
