Assassins Creed

One of the most interesting and exciting games in development at the moment is Assassins Creed. It is also a game that the developers have said very, very little about.

Assassins Creed is set in 1191 during the tumultuous Third Crusade. You play the role of Altair a master assassin of the original sect of the Hashshashin (the original Arab word for assassin) setup by Muslims to eliminate rival Abbasid elites. Your task in the game is to eliminate key figures on both Crusader and Saracen sides in order to stop the growing conflict. Ubisoft has also hinted at a deeper conspiracy that players will unearth as they continue to takeout influential figures.

The game will take place in many of the major cities of the holy land such as Jerusalem, Damascus and Acre. All of these will be freely explore able, as will the countryside around the cities in the style of GTA, though you have a horse instead of a car.

Kills will have three components: finding out information about the target such as their whereabouts, routines and so on; planning and carrying out the kill; and finally, getting away safely. In order to carry out your kills you will need to utilize all of Altair’s skills and the surrounding environment. Rather than blending into shadows the game places more emphases on ‘social stealth’ using crowds or processions of monks as shields in order to get close to ones target are just one example that has been given. Another way consists of using Altair’s amazing dexterity and acrobatic skills to climb and jump your way into the perfect position as almost anything that would be conceivably scaleable in the game can be climbed. Combat will take a more defensive role which focuses on counters and getting you out of tight situations so you can get away from your aggressors as, realistically, Altair is quite fragile and can only take a few hits.

For more information you can go to the official site, IGN also has some good videos for the game.

Alskreek, out.
