DOS Games

If you’re ever hit by nostalgia for some old DOS game and you can't quite get that big old floppy disc to fit into your DVD drive, never fear, you can just simply download it from Abandonia.

The site has many old classics, along with a lot of crap, such as original Command and Conquer, Ultima and Mechwarrior.

Bang! Howdy

Bang! Howdy is an online, turn based game in its beta stages. Not surprisingly, its theme is that of a western with crazy steam engine technology thrown in for good measure.

Heroes of Might and Magic V, again

After extensive play over the last few days I can say that, I at least, am thoroughly satisfied with this new serving of HoMaM.

Rush for Berlin

The demo for the up and coming Rush for Berlin RTS is now available for play. The game will be released later this month (26th) but I thought I would investigate what’s on offer.

Gears of War

Gears of war, a gritty sci-fi/horror third person shooter, has been available for play at this years E3. I agree with Tycho from Penny Arcade in that this game could very-well be of halo-esque stature, perhaps without the annoying non-endings (hint, Halo 2), and I think this is specifically true due to the fact that the game will have full co-op multiplayer – something which is defiantly the way to go.

Wii Tennis

Nintendo have unveiled their new machine, the Wii, at e3 this year and one of their titles is a tennis game.

The clip shows a lucky winner playing a game of tennis with Nintendo executives which shows how intuitive the new controllers are. The players actually swing their controls to manipulate their in-game characters who respond accordingly. Looks like a lot of fun and would defiantly be a good party game.

The Burning Crusade

The release of the expansion pack for world of Warcraft is fast approaching and I thought it would be pertinent to give a bit of an overview as to what will be in it as I myself am excited about this for coming release.

The Burning Crusade expansion will introduce several new officially stated features as well as many more that have not been announced.

Archmage

Not to steal Ian’s thunder but I will be talking about the online, text based fantasy/strategy game, Archmage. My housemate plays this game constantly and I have been known to divulge every so often.

The game takes place in the world of Terra and you the role of a very powerful mage in charge of a fledgling state. As a mage you goal will be to become the strongest on the server. Towards this aim you will explore new lands, build larger cities in the form of towns, forts, farms, mana nodes, barracks and so on.

Supreme Commander

The inheritor of the Total Annihilation RTS, Supreme Commander, being made by Gas Powered Games will apparently be coming to us in 2007. A good preview can be found here at Gamespot.

The storyline, like that of Total Annihilation, leaves much to be desired. We have three races which is pretty standard now days; the UEF or United Earth Federation, the Cybran and the Aeon. An easy way to differentiate the races would be to think of it like this; normal humans, humans with metal bits and humans with probes or…something.
